Five-Star IT services in Melbury Osmond Dorset including network security and the very latest progressive web apps, web design and SEO.
We living and working in Dorset & Hampshire
We have been in business since 1986 and have travelled to all corners of the British Isles, mainly to
install voice and data networks but also to resolve complex IT and security issues for our wonderful
clients, including an overnight round trip to Glasgow to fix a broken PC that just needed plugging in!
They say that home is where the heart is, well our home is right on the border between Dorset and
Hampshire and so we love both, from quaint and quiet villages and the peaceful New Forest to the historic
docks and the busy towns and cities all right here on our doorstep including Melbury Osmond.
We always like to use small local businesses rather than large national and international companies where we can,
and encourage others to do the same, the benefits are manyfold, with some obvious but many you may not
have really thought about.
Did You Know?
Melbury Osmond is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset in southern England. It lies approximately 7 miles (11 km) south of the Somerset town of Yeovil. The underlying geology is Cornbrash limestone, with adjacent Oxford clay. Within the clay can be found deposits of stone which can take on a very high polish, earning them the name "Melbury marble". The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book as a possession of the Arundell family, and remained so until the 19th century. The parish church, St. Osmund's, was totally rebuilt in 1745 and restored in 1888, although it has registers dating back to 1550. In the 2011 census the parish had a population of 199.
The major part of Melbury Osmond village lies on a cul-de-sac lane which from the church descends past cottages to a stream and ford. The attractive appearance of the village has been noted by commentators: it has been described as "a calendarsmith's dream of thatched cottages" and in 1906 Sir Frederick Treves wrote that it was "the most charming village in these Western backwoods".
Melcombe was one of the first points of entry of the Black Death into England in the summer of 1348. (The disease was possibly carried there by infected soldiers and sailors returning from the Hundred Years' War, or from a visiting spice ship. There is no way of knowing for certain.)
In 2014, decomposed partial human remains were found in the golf course by a dog who dragged them out the bushes. Police cordoned off the area and discovered a body 40ft up a tree, later revealed to be a man who went missing three years earlier.
Milborne St Andrew is in the Abbey electoral ward, which also includes Winterborne Kingston, Winterborne Whitechurch, Milton Abbas and Hilton. The ward population in the 2011 census was 3,897. The ward is part of the constituency of North Dorset that is currently (2018) represented in the UK parliament by the Conservative Simon Hoare.
In 1900 the house was found to be riddled with dry rot and was demolished and the current house, designed by Leonard Stokes, was built.
The Church of St. Mary can be found in the grounds of Crichel House. In 1850, Henry Charles Sturt paid to build the Church of St Mary to replace the building which preceded it. After 1973, the church was no longer used. However, it continues to be an important part of the Crichel Estate. The parish church of St. Mary is in the grounds of Crichel House and not accessible to the public.
In 1975 James Fisher's eldest son Adrian, now professional international maze designer, created his first maze in the garden of Throop House; this maze, planted in holly, no longer exists.
