We living and working in Dorset & Hampshire
We have been in business since 1986 and have travelled to all corners of the British Isles, mainly to
install voice and data networks but also to resolve complex IT and security issues for our wonderful
clients, including an overnight round trip to Glasgow to fix a broken PC that just needed plugging in!
They say that home is where the heart is, well our home is right on the border between Dorset and
Hampshire and so we love both, from quaint and quiet villages and the peaceful New Forest to the historic
docks and the busy towns and cities all right here on our doorstep including Melplash.
We always like to use small local businesses rather than large national and international companies where we can,
and encourage others to do the same, the benefits are manyfold, with some obvious but many you may not
have really thought about.
Did You Know?
Melplash is a village in western Dorset, England. It is situated on the A3066 road 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Bridport and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Beaminster.
The construction of Christ Church between 1845 and 1846 was funded by James Bandinel (who was at one time secretary to William Wilberforce) in memory of his father, who had been vicar of Melplash and the neighbouring village of Netherbury. The church was designed by Benjamin Ferrey and built in Neo-Norman style.
In the early 20th century the area was served by Meyrick Park Halt railway station. Cars used to be allowed access along the path by the main field, but this is now restricted.
The 36 almost identical thatched cottages were intended to house two families each. They were built from cob and previously were painted yellow, with each house fronted by a lawn; originally a horse chestnut tree was planted between each dwelling. Almshouses and a church were also provided for the new village, sited opposite each other. The almshouses were moved from the old town, where they had originally been built in 1674. The church, consecrated in 1786, is in Georgian Gothic style, with late 19th-century additions.
A school chapel, licensed for church services, was built at Moordown in 1853, with funds raised by parishioners of St. Peter's Church, Bournemouth. It was dedicated to St. John in the Wilderness - quite suitably, for at that point Moordown was still very much a frontier settlement, with a population of about 300. The church moved to its present site in the 1870s, partly in response to the development of Winton at Moordown's southern edge. Winton had been laid out by the Talbot sisters, who, suspicious of religion, decided that no place of worship would be erected on their land. This prompted Alexander Morden Bennett, the zealous vicar of St. Peter's, to move the church to its present site at the junction of Vicarage and Wimborne Roads - right on the border of the Talbot sisters' new development.
The River Frome race in the village is also a popular tourist attraction. A pedestrian bridge spans the shallow ford and gives access to a number of short forest walks.
